Traffic Camera Installation Project in Calais

Miovision Traffic Camera Installation

Last week, Frazier Signal Technologies began a project at the intersection of Route 1 and South Street in Calais, Maine. As part of our contract with Maine DOT, we are working on a Miovision traffic camera installation and needed to provide the necessary electrical service for the system.

We were thoroughly impressed by the Eastern Maine Electric Cooperative utility team. Staking Engineer Robert Black was quick to answer all our questions, while linemen Wesley and Scott efficiently secured the SE cable, mounted the weatherhead, and connected power—all within just 90 minutes of our arrival.

Exceptional customer service!

Bangor Broadway Project Update: New Mast Poles & Arms Arrive

New mast poles and arms arrive

Traffic signal mast poles

This week, the mast poles and mast arms for the Bangor Broadway project arrived at our shop. Each arm varies in length from 32 to 50 feet. Over the next two weeks, we’ll be preparing the traffic signal equipment and signage for installation. We’ve offloaded the delivery trucks and brought in the first mast arm, “ME3200,” for configuration.

It’s hard to believe that just a year ago, we were following the same installation procedures for the Center/Main Street project in Old Town.

Stay tuned for more updates as we move forward toward the scheduled installation in June 2025.

Wishing everyone a great week!

Traffic Camera Relocation: A Learning Experience

This week’s post is titled “It Happens.”

The City of Ellsworth requested a GridSmart traffic camera relocation. The goal was to relocate the unit further out on a mast arm to improve traffic detection and flow efficiency.

During the traffic camera relocation, the camera lens accidentally came into contact with the basket of the bucket truck, resulting in a crack. The realization of the damage brought an immediate wave of panic and dread.

A huge thank you to Jason Ingalls, Ellsworth’s IT Systems Administrator, for his patience as we replaced the unit and to Chad Bodemann from New England Traffic Solutions for quickly providing a replacement unit while the damaged one is being repaired.

We’ve since implemented a new procedure to wrap all units in protective covering during removal and installation to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Lesson learned – thank you for trusting us to make it right!
