Saco’s New Exit 35 Enhances Traffic Flow

On November 3rd, the Maine Turnpike Authority officially opened the brand-new northbound and southbound Exit 35 access in Saco!

This $42 million project came out of a 2019 transportation study aimed at relieving the heavy congestion—over 40,000 vehicles a day—previously funneled through Exit 36.

Frazier Signal Technologies was proud to be one of the contractors on the job, working under the leadership of Moulison Heavy Electric and Sergeant Corporation.

A special shout-out to our project foreman, Jon Shaw, whose hard work and attention to detail ensured our team delivered

exceptional results. From setting mast arms to installing traffic signals and completing cabinet wiring—Jon made sure everything was dialed in. Thank you, Jon!

Wishing everyone a great week ahead!

Upgrading Fort Kent’s Traffic Signals: Key Project Insights

One of our recent projects took Frazier Signal Technologies to the historic town of Fort Kent — the “0-mile” starting point of Route 1, stretching all the way to Florida.

We were honored to be invited by LaJoie Electric and Control Service to assist on their Maine DOT project, upgrading two key intersections in downtown Fort Kent.

Lynn Frazier and Rick Smith worked their magic inside the traffic cabinets, while DJ Cox and I handled the installation of signal equipment on the mast arms.

Traffic Cabinets

We were thoroughly impressed with the crews’ teamwork — especially witnessing a coordinated two-digger-truck lift of a 40-foot mast arm. Peter LaJoie truly embodied the saying “where there’s a will, there’s a way” as he and his team expertly navigated traffic, communication lines, and other challenges to get the job done safely and efficiently.

Thank you to everyone at LaJoie Electric and Control Service for the collaboration and hospitality.

Wishing all crews a safe and productive week ahead!

Night Work for New Intersection in Edgecomb, Maine

It’s been a few weeks since Frazier Signal Technologies shared an update.

Normally, we like to post weekly—showcasing the projects we’re tackling or highlighting the accomplishments of our team.

Lately, it’s just been nonstop—one project rolling right into the next.

Traffic Signal Installation in Edgecomb ME

One of our main focuses has been our overnight traffic signal installation in Edgecomb, ME. We’ve been building out a new intersection for Maine DOT. Because Route 1 stays busy during the day, our crew has been working nights to keep traffic moving safely. It’s been quite the task, but we’re getting close to wrapping it up.

New School Zone Speed Signs Installed at Enfield Station Elementary

Frazier kids on bikes

This week, Frazier Signal Technologies had the honor of installing new School Zone Speed Signs for Enfield Station Elementary School in Enfield.

Enfield station school zone speed sign

While the project was small in scope, it meant a lot to us personally, as our own children will be attending Enfield Station this fall. Thomas and his sister, Abagail, will both be students there.

We’re grateful for the chance to support the safety of students, families, and staff in our community.

If your school or district could use school zone signs installed before the ground freezes—or existing systems updated—we’d be glad to help.

Bangor Broadway Project Update: New Mast Poles & Arms Arrive

New mast poles and arms arrive

Traffic signal mast poles

This week, the mast poles and mast arms for the Bangor Broadway project arrived at our shop. Each arm varies in length from 32 to 50 feet. Over the next two weeks, we’ll be preparing the traffic signal equipment and signage for installation. We’ve offloaded the delivery trucks and brought in the first mast arm, “ME3200,” for configuration.

It’s hard to believe that just a year ago, we were following the same installation procedures for the Center/Main Street project in Old Town.

Stay tuned for more updates as we move forward toward the scheduled installation in June 2025.

Wishing everyone a great week!

TAPCO’s Wrong Way Detection System Installed by Frazier Signal Technologies

Tapcos wrong way detection sign next to Frazier Signals truck

This week, Frazier Signal Technologies successfully completed the installation and testing of TAPCO’s Wrong Way detection system at several key locations.

the I-95 Exit 120 Sidney (northbound and southbound), Fairfield Southbound Exit 133, and the South Bound Exit 161in Plymouth.

This advanced system detects wrong-way drivers, flashes LED warning signs. Authorities are alerted to the potential danger with real-time video footage.

We extend our sincere thanks to United Rentals in Portland Maine for providing an attenuator truck.

We would also like to thank the Maine State Police (Lt. Charette) for assisting with temporary ramp closures allowing us to safely test the cutting edge equipment.

A special shoutout to TAPCO‘s Aaron and Mason for their unwavering support throughout the process.

Bimodal Signs Project: Lessons in Adaptability

It may seem like every project we handle goes off without a hitch—flawless and smooth. Thanks to solid planning and teamwork, most of the time, that’s true. Then there was Monday……..

Bimodal Signs

You might remember our updates about the Traffic Movement Permit at Taco Bell on Hogan Road. We were working on pedestrian facility upgrades, new backplates, and four bimodal signs. These electronic signs display multiple messages, reminding drivers to watch for pedestrians and not to turn right on red. We ordered them back in May. Timing the construction to line up with delivery in July. Once they arrived, we installed and wired them, only to find out the messages were wrong!

Frustrating, to say the least. Fortunately, the client was very understanding, and getting replacements was a quick fix. We reordered and moved on.

The replacements came in, and we scheduled the installation for Monday. But on Monday, we realized the backplates to hold the signs in place hadn’t been shipped.

Cue the panic…

Bimodal Signs

Bad and even worse ideas involving duct tape and Elmer’s glue were briefly discussed. Thank you Jon for stepping in!

Thankfully, our vendor, Signals on the Run, made a few calls. Soon enough, the sales rep from SunriseSESA was driving up from Massachusetts to meet Richard Smith in Portland.

By Tuesday, the final install was complete, right on schedule for the client. Now that’s customer service! Huge thanks to Sean and Rick for your collaboration—we owe you one!
